On 25 May 2023, Karanovic & Partners had the pleasure to organise a business breakfast, dedicated to the competition law. Our Partners Bojan Vučković and Bojana Miljanović Hussey held the panel on the novelties in the Serbian competition law practice.
The opening topic was related to the increased activity of the Commission for Protection of Competition of the Republic of Serbia (the Competition Commission), manifested in nine new antitrust and merger control investigations opened during 2022 and 2023, the recently established practice of unannounced inspections – dawn raids, as well as the imposed fines for breaching antitrust regulations. The participants discussed the new ways for detection of potential competition law infringements that the Serbian Competition Commission has been using in its work, including web and media news, IP addresses analysis, as well as sectoral analysis.
Investigations of pricing policies, discount strategies and the abuse of dominance were some of the most interesting topics of interest for the audience. Also, the speakers touched upon the fact that the Serbian Competition Commission has recently initiated investigations in which it attempts to apply new and more complex indicators of abuse of dominance.
The high level of attendance at the business breakfast is a testament to the significance of the topic. It is encouraging to hear that attendees participated in the discussion, raising questions, providing answers, and fostering dialogue among various stakeholders in the local market.
