ICC Belgrade Infrastructure and Dispute Resolution Conference

On 7 November in Belgrade, the ICC Court of Arbitration and ICC Serbia together with Karanović & Partners, and Pinsent Masons, hosted the third ICC Belgrade Infrastructure and Dispute Resolution Conference. The event brought together around 130 participants, including leading professionals, legal experts, and industry stakeholders to discuss pressing issues in infrastructure contracting, FIDIC contracts, and the integration of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles in international arbitration.

The conference commenced with opening remarks by our Senior Partner Milan Lazić, and Nevena Rakić, Advisor to the President of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, while the keynote speech was delivered by Professor Renato Nazzini, Director of the Centre of Construction Law and Dispute Resolution at the Dickson Poon School of Law at the King’s College in London.

The event was structured around three panels. The first panel, moderated by our Partner Ana Luković, explored the challenges in infrastructure project structuring, financing options, and risk-sharing strategies. The discussion featured Duško Krsmanović, Country Head, UK Export Finance (UKEF) for the Balkans and Central and Eastern Europe, Vojin Zajić, Subdivision Manager at STRABAG, Dino Simonoski Bukovski, Chief Legal Officer at, Akuo Energy in Zagreb, and our Partner Maja Jovančević Šetka.

The second session was focused on FIDIC contracts. The discussion highlighted practical challenges and emerging trends in contract administration for large-scale projects. Panelists, who shared insights on best practices in FIDIC contract management, were Matej Kosalko, Senior Associate at A&O Shearman in Bratislava, Daniel Miles, Senior Managing Director at J.S. Held in London, and Luminita Popa, Partner at Popa Legal in Bucharest. The discussion was moderated by Charles Blamire Brown, Partner at Pinsent Masons in London.

The third panel was dedicated to ESG in international arbitration, and it explored how environmental, social, and governance standards shape the international arbitration landscape. Panelists included Živa Filipič, Managing Counsel at ICC International Court of Arbitration, Marily Paralika, Partner at Fieldfisher in Paris, Professor Maja Stanivuković, Faculty of Law at the University of Novi Sad, and Graham Coop, Partner at Pinsent Masons in London. This session was moderated by our Partner Milica Savić.
