Tender for Highway Construction in North Macedonia

On 31 January 2025, the Public Enterprise for State Roads published a tender for a new infrastructure project – the construction of a key section of the E-65 highway between the village Bukojchani and the municipality of Kichevo.

At this stage, the invitation for prequalification has been issued, with the closing date being 17 March 2025.

The project concerns a 10.7 km highway section, which represents a crucial part of the Pan-European Road Corridor VIII. It covers approximately 305 kilometres across North Macedonia, from the Deve Bair border with Bulgaria to the Kjafasan border with Albania.

Importantly, this section fills a critical gap in the connection between the country’s capital, Skopje, and the most renowned Macedonian tourist destination, Ohrid. The remaining segments of this route are already under construction.

The new highway is envisaged to feature dual carriageways with state-of-the-art specifications, including two 3.5 m wide traffic lanes in each direction and comprehensive safety features. The project scope encompasses the construction of interchanges, bridges, culverts, and a tunnel, designed to support speeds up to 100 km/h.

The contract includes both construction and a 5-year maintenance agreement.

This project is being financed through the EBRD. For more information, visit the EBRD Client E-Procurement Portal.
